How long before the central region of China (Chengdu, Chongqing) is returned to normal after the earthquake?

andcarga | china | Sunday, 28 September 2008

Telenovelas

As you may know, on May 12, 2008 a big earthquake hit central China.

How long before the region is up and running like before?

I don't think anyone can really predict that. However, places like Chengdu and Chonqing (large cities) will probably be back to normal much sooner than the smaller towns that were hit closer to the epicenter. I'm not sure that all of them will even be rebuilt. I hope they will be restored as soon as possible, but the emotional toll may never be healed.

How to extend a trip to china without buying another set of tickets?

andcarga | china | Saturday, 27 September 2008

Telenovelas

The tickets were bought via AAdvantage using points. The tickets back involve one stop along the way at Chicago. I flew to China already and am about to leave, but I want to extend my trip another week. There's no problem with my passport/visa so I can technically stay another month if I wanted to. Is there any way to extend my trip without buying another ticket home?

Get in touch with the airline from china to chicago and ask them if they will change your ticket.

If they have seats they have discretion to change the date. If their policy is not to change try to give a very good reason why you need to change, be persistent.

As for chicago to home thats less of a problem probably.

Living in China, and miss food from home, can you give me a recipe idea?

andcarga | china | Saturday, 27 September 2008

Telenovelas

I only have stove top burners, and a microwave. I've been away for a long time, and miss good American food. I live in a modern city in China and have access to expensive import stores, and I would like your ideas. What food do you like?

How about some KFC Popcorn Chicken?
5 oz boneless skinless chicken breast
4 tsp flour
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp onion powder
4 large egg whites
4 TBS milk
1 1/2 c dry bread crumbs

Preheat oven to 475. Place chicken on cutting board and cover with waxed paper. Flatten to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into 50 small pieces. (or just into strips for less work)
Combine flour, sugar, s&p, onion powder in a zip top baggie and shake well. Add chicken pieces and shake to coat. Set aside.
In small bowl, beat egg whites and milk until smooth. Put bread crumbs on a sheet of waxed paper, beside egg. Dip chicken pieces into egg then bread crumbs, consecutively. Put oil in pan and fry chicken (turning once)until brown on both sides.

Makes @2 servings (large size)
————————————–
or maybe some Shrimp Alfredo-
1/2 c butter
1/2 c heavy vream
3/4 c parmesan
1/2 tsp salt
dash pepper
shrimp, sauted in butter.

Heat butter and cream over low heat, stirring constantly, until butter melts. Stir in cheese,s&p. Add shrimp and serve over fettucini noodles.
————————————–
this might take a bit of time, but you'll be eating off of it for days…
Sausage Stromboli-
1 pkg active dry yeast
1 tsp sugar
1 c warmwater
1/4 c oil
1/4 tsp salt, divided
2 1/2-3 c flour
3/4 lb sausage
1 medium onion
1 can tomato sauce
1/2 c green pepper
1 clove garlic
1 1/2 tsp italian seasoning
dash salt & pepper
1 c sour cream
3 TBS whipped, chive & onion cream cheese
cheddar & mozzarella shredded

Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let stand 5 min. Add oil, 2c flour, and 1/8 tsp salt. Beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough. Turn onto floured surface and knead 5 min. Place in a greased bowl. Cover and let rise @1 hr. Meanwhile cook sausage and onion, drain. Add tomato sauce, green pepper, garlic, s&p, and italian seasoning. Set aside. Punch down dough. On a large greased baking sheet, roll into an oval 18×12. Spread sausage lengthwise down center.
Combine sour cream and cream cheese. Spread over sausage. Sprinkle with cheeses. Fold one side over meat, then the other one.Pinch to seam sides. Cut slits in top. Cover and let rise until doubled @30 min. Brush top with egg wash, sprinkle with fennel seed. Bake at 400 for 25-30 min. or until lightly browned. Let stand 10 min. before slicing.

How is China for a lone female traveler?

andcarga | china | Saturday, 27 September 2008

Telenovelas

If there is a single female tourist in China who doesn't speak Chinese except the basic greetings, what difficulties would she encounter? Is it safe for a female to travel alone? Are Asian tourists treated differently from Westerners? Please elaborate. Thank you!

If you're the one going to China, yes, I read lots of books/traveling books, etc before my trip to China (but I'm not a woman, as you can see by the pic) but my point is that all those books say it is safe for women, western woman in particular, to travel in China.Obviously like any other traveler, you have to be careful, be informed, be aware about your surroundings, use common sense. Good luck (if you're going), I can't wait to go!

I want to protest olypics in china in Nebraska state capital what do i do? Where do i start?

andcarga | china | Saturday, 27 September 2008

Telenovelas

The olympic games opening in china is august 8th so I dont have much time. But I want to start a protest in my states capital. How do I start? Do I need a licence? I want to do it right, but yet do it loud!
I think If I get enough people, with loud enough voice news papers and stations will pay attention, and thus spread knowledge and understanding about china and tibet.

If the Chinese government doesn't trust their own people enough to hold free and open elections what makes you think they will care what someone in Nebraska says? The only thing you can get done is supporting the local street vendors- $6 water $8 hotdog anyone? Several times over the past 50 years the leader of the free world has told them they don't agree with their oppression.

How does China’s natural resources result in a absolute or comparative advantage for the country?

andcarga | china | Friday, 26 September 2008

Telenovelas

China’s Natural Resources.
Explain how the items might result in an absolute or comparative advantage for the country.

A country is said to have an absolute advantage in the production of a good or service if they are able to make it at a lower cost than another country. For example, if it costs $20 to make a chair in USA, but only $12 to make the same chair in China, then we would say that the Chinese economy has an absolute advantage in the production of that chair. Therefore we should allow people in China to make these chairs, as the finished product will be cheaper for consumers.

If all international trade followed this theory, then production would increasingly be isolated in countries with low wages. Only highly specialised items would be able to be produced in countries with high wages. This would result in lower overall world production, which is clearly an undesirable outcome. As such, a different theory is needed.

To understand the theory of comparative advantage, you first need to review the concept of opportunity cost. Opportunity cost is the value of the next best alternative – the one that you didn’t get. At the time we measured that cost in dollars, but we can also think of it in terms of products.

Economics is a logical subject, just understand the theory and think logically.

Hopefully, it helped.

Take Care.

Why is China considered to be a single part state?

andcarga | china | Thursday, 25 September 2008

Telenovelas

In reality other than the Communist party of China, there are 8 other political parties in the National Congress.
According to Chinese Consititution, The President and Premier of the state are elected by members of the National Congress. Citizens also have the right to vote in local elections, who then vote for the representatives of the National Congress, and thoes members vote the head of state.
So why is China considered as a single party state?

Because they are all shades of the Communist Party. The illusion of choice when at a fundamental level they are all founded on Communist principles.
